Bengaluru: Even before the 'Kiss of Love' is to be held in Bengaluru, organisers are already getting hate messages both on social media and offline. There were protests in several parts of Karnataka opposing the event.
The Bharatiya Janata Party workers staged a protest in Chikkamagaluru while Pramod Muthalik's right wing group Sri Rama Sene activists protested in Hubbali and Belagavi districts.
Muthalik has even threatened to disrupt the event. The organisers had initially planned it for this Saturday (November 22). They have now approached the police asking for their permission to hold the event on November 30. Police will be taking a decision in a day or two.
Talking to CNN-IBN, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner MN Reddi said, "If anyone gives a threat either online or in person, he/she is liable to be proceeded against. The moment we receive a complaint from the concerned person, we will take action. We really don't know what they mean by 'Kiss of Love'. So we need to understand what exactly they propose to do.
"Section 294 of IPC says that anyone who commits an obscene act in public can be charged. Anything obscene is violation of Indian law. What is obscene is to be measured comparison to what an average person thinks and expects in society and what the community standard is. If anyone does anything which is obscene and hurts sentiments of the public around, that is an illegal act. We will not allow anything to degenerate into a law and order situation," he added.
