THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Deputy Leader of the Opposition Kodiyeri Balakrishnan alleged here on Monday that UDF Government was trying to sabotage Neyyatinkara bypoll by using the police. Kodiyeri’s comments came after police personnel reportedly entered the LDF election committee office in Chenkal at Neyyatinkara to carry out a search. “Oommen Chandy Government is trying to deploy police in Neyyatinkara and sabotage the election, which will be strongly opposed,’’ Kodiyeri said while speaking to mediapersons, after visiting the election committee office in Neyyatinkara. CPM leader G Sudakaran MLA said that the party would file a complaint with the Central Election Commission on the issue. “Who gave them the authority to carry out the search? Did they have any search warrant. This will be reported to the Central Election Commission,’’ he said. The leaders alleged that the police entered the election area committee office when a meeting was going on in which senior CPM leaders including E P Jayarajan and G Sudkaran were participating. On hearing about the police deployment outside the office, other leaders including Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and M Vijayakumar reached the spot. The CPM activists also took out a march at Chenkal in Neyyatinkara protesting against the incident. After the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrashekaran, there has been a heavy deployment of police in the region. Police have also been deployed in the border areas of Neyyatinkara to prevent any untoward incident.
