Kolkata: Left supporters will hold a rally on Friday in Kolkata to protest the Mamata Banerjee government's failure to check crime against women. The rally will be headed by Soumitra Chatterjee, Miral Sen and Aparna Sen, who have urged people to join in. The rally is expected to start at 3.30 pm.
A 20-year-old girl was gangraped and murdered on June 8 in Barasat while she was returning home from college. Her body was found with injury marks near a canal.
When the West Bengal Chief Minister had went to the village to meet the victim's family, a group of angry protesters shouted anti-government slogans and forced her to leave the house within five minutes. This led to the exchange of heated words and the Chief Minister lost her cool and had said that the Barasat gangrape and murder accused are CPM workers and those protesting are CPM cadre.
Under attack over the recent gangrape and murder case, the Trinamool Congress chief on Thursday had alleged that the guests on local television news channels critical of her aren't social workers, but involved in pornography.
