RAJAHMUNDRY: The Konaseema Rythu Parirakshana Samithi (KRPS) which is spearheading the crop holiday movement this kharif season, has expressed its unhappiness over the Mohan Kanda Committee report though chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday agreed to implement a majority its recommendations for the welfare of small and marginal farmers.
In all, 12 recommendations of Mohan Kanda Committee and 15 demands of farmers of Konaseema were discussed at a highlevel meeting held by the chief minister. The state government had also agreed to concede some of the demands of farmers of Konaseema.Speaking to Express, KRPS president Rambala Bose demanded that the report of MS Swaminathan Committee be implemented in toto to better safeguard the interests of small, marginal and tenant farmers. He demanded that profitable price be fixed for paddy instead of minimum support price keeping in view the increase in cultivation costs. Rabi paddy lying with farmers should be procured at a remunerative price. A comprehensive crop insurance scheme should be implemented to protect the small and marginal farmers from natural calamities. A compensation of `10,000 per acre should also be provided to paddy farmers to raise rabi crop, he said.
