THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The pro-CPM Kerala School Teachers Association (KSTA) has decided to go ahead with the agitation against the decision to give NOCs to CBSE and ICSE schools. This decision was conveyed by the KSTA leadership to Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb at the meting with representatives of teachers unions here on Tuesday. KSTA general secretary M Shajahan told Express that the minister had said that there was no move to open up the education sector to corporate sector. However, he could not give a convincing reply to questions on the newspaper advertisements of corporate companies seeking land to set up schools, he said. The minister told the meeting that the decision to give recognition to CBSE schools was taken as the previous government had not issued NOCs during the past five years. The minister assured that NOCs would not be issued indiscriminately, Shajahan said. The meeting decided to extend the date for submitting the details of textbooks received for this academic year through the website, by two more days. A major decisions was not to implement reforms made by the previous LDF Government on textbook distribution. The plan was to reintroduce the old textbook depot system. Another decision was to exclude the teachers from the duty of writing the minutes of grama sabhas. The minister assured that top priority would be given to give sanction to postings in aided schools. Another decision was to implement after discussions the 1:30 teacher:pupil ratio as recommended under the Right to Education Act.
