THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi (KVVES) youth wing (Thiruvananthapuram committee) will stage a sit-in in front of the Secretariat on August 9, Quit India Day, in protest against the Centre’s move to allow FDI in the retail sector. KVVES state vice-president Peringamala Ramachandran will inaugurate the sit-in, KVVES Youth Wing (Thiruvananthapuram) president S S Manoj told a press conference here. Manoj warned against allowing 100-per cent FDI in the retail sector. The Central Government policy favouring FDI will push 25 crore-plus people employed in the retail industry and their families to unemployment and poverty, he said. FDI in this sector will lead to economic colonisation of the country. The KVVES will plan stronger agitations, if the Centre opts to go ahead with its decision, he said.
