MANGALORE: Moodbidri police on Thursday arrested Chandravathy, 44, on the charges of killing her husband Ashok fifteen months ago and destroying evidence. When Moodbidri’s crisis man K Ashok went missing on December 7, 2010, his ‘grief-stricken’ wife Chandravathy appeared on television threatening to file a habeas corpus petition, and put pressure on police to trace him. The police also arrested her 22-year-old daughter Ashwini, who allegedly helped her mother dispose of her father’s body.Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said this case needed to be investigated by officials like the assistant commissioner. Labelled as a crisis man, Ashok was known to have helped hundreds of people. Chandravathy said a stranger from Bangalore picked up Ashok who ran a security agency.Later she reportedly confessed to having murdered Ashok. However, Singh did not confirm the rumours about her extramarital affair with a brother-in-law which led to Ashok’s murder. “In the absence of evidence, we are going for DNA technology to see if he was murdered and burnt,” he added.
