UDUPI: Laksha Deepotsava, marking the beginning of daily Utsavs at Srikrishna Temple, Udupi, after a gap of rainy season, was held here on Monday evening with pomp and gaiety. Deepotsava will be celebrated for four consecutive evenings starting Monday.Daily utsavs to lord Krishna at Srikrishna Temple here, take a temporary break, on the Bhagirathi Janmadina. After the rainy season, lord Krishna will be offered Tulasi Archane, from the day of Deepavali. After offering the Tulasi Archane for 11 days, the 12th day, Uthana Dwadashi, is observed as Laksha Deepothsava. To mark the occasion, ‘Ksheerabdhi’ (offering of milk to lord Krishna in front of the Tulasi Katte) will be performed. Utsava Moorthi of lord Krishna was taken around in the Madhwa Sarovara, the temple lake, marking the spectacular Teppotsava, followed by Rathothsava on Car Street. Earlier, Paryaya Shiroor Mutt pontiff Lakshmivara Theertha accompanied by Palimaru Mutt pontiff Vidyadheesha Theertha and Kaniyoor Mutt pontiff Vidyavallabha Theertha lighted the lamps to Lord Krishna to mark ‘Deepa Prajwalana.’ Devotees too lighted lakhs of lamps around Car Street, to make the illuminated installations.
