With two days to voting, campaigning of BJP, Cong and independent candidate Sriramulu has reached its peak.

BELLARY: With just two days to voting, the electioneering in the Bellary Rural constituency has reached its peak. On Sunday, the penultimate day of public campaigning, all three parties — BJP, Congress and Independent candidate Sriramulu — appeared to be in a hurry to make most of the remaining time by reaching out to as many voters as possible.

While Sriramulu carried on with his usual style of functioning — conducting road-shows and door-to-door campaigning — the ruling BJP hit roads with its battery of leaders, including state BJP president K S Eshwarappa and other ministers. BJP national general secretary H N Ananthkumar also joined the campaign trail on Sunday.

Besides deploying its full force, the BJP has continued its efforts to lure Reddys’ detractors in the district.  On Sunday, it managed to lure Tapal Ganesh, a mine owner who was the first to raise his voice against illegal mining in the district.

It is said that the ruling party was making desperate efforts to lure JD(S) leader Suryanarayan Reddy to thwart Sriramulu’s chances further. On the other hand, Congress brought its senior leader Jaffer Sharief with an aim to woo Muslim votes, which are in majority. The campaigning, which was hitherto peaceful, is likely to get aggressive in the coming days.

Enough indications emerged on Sunday with Opposition leader Siddaramaiah having to encounter the unruly supporters of Sriramulu at Allipur village. Siddaramaiah was stopped by Sriramulu supporters from entering the village stating that it was the bastion of Sriramulu and no other party was allowed to campaign there.

The DC and SP had to rush to the village and arrest two people, including Bellary city corporation member Yallappa,  before Siddaramaih could continue his campaign. Meanwhile, the incidents of money distribution and luring of voters with freebies was also reported on Sunday.  While two people, who are said to be supporters of Sriramulu, were arrested while distributing money to voters in Coul Bazar area, a car was seized near Belagal cross for allegedly transporting Rs 5 lakh in cash.
