New Delhi: LGBT activists on Sunday have pinned their hopes on the the Supreme Court. The apex court will hold an unprecedented, open-court reconsideration of a controversial ruling by it that upheld the validity of a Victorian-era law that makes homosexuality illegal.
This comes as a ray of hope for the LGBT communities hoping that SC and their supporters across the nation. Lawmakers rejected an opportunity to decriminalise homosexuality in Parliament in December 2015.
The LGBT community are organising vigils across the country to build consensus against the archaic article that makes gay sex a punishable offence.
The Supreme Court will hear a curative plea to review their previous order. Two years ago, the Supreme Court had turned down a plea to decriminalise gay sex.
