Lokpal bill: TN Seshan for EC-like body

CHENNAI: Any arrangement on Lokpal should be made in full concurrence with the Constitution while maintaining the supremacy of Parliament, former election commissioner TN Seshan insisted here on Friday.    “The Constitution Amendment Bill should provide for the creation of a Lokpal on parallel with the ECI, ensuring its full autonomy as well as the creation of Lokayuktas in every State,” he told reporters. He added that the constitution of the pabel be done through a selection process, “with a panel whose majority are not government officials or officers”.He also mentioned that it may exclude the functions of the PM, “in matters of national importance”.
