CHENNAI: It was a personal experience for me, how the mind can create miracles for itself. I came across a student who wished to seek admission in a leading college, armed with a weighty letter of recommendation and barely enough marks in the subject of his choice. The student thought admission was going to be a cakewalk, but, unfortunately, it wasn’t. There were parents who waited from 2am and entered the college by 4am, got tokens that were issued and waited to meet the principal at about 3.30pm This batch was of about 300. Another crowd of 300 anxious parents were waiting since 8am, uncertain about what would happen. There was a mother who had come with her son, stood there in the crowd with a smiling face talking to other parents, but within her, she seemed to be chanting something all the time. The stress and tension did not alter her peaceful countenance. As she waited, she used that time to pray for her son who was impatient. However, he imagined that with a recommendation, there was no need to wait in a crowd.Hours went by, and the second crowd was getting impatient. This woman waited and finally left the place to come again tomorrow. However, as she was standing there encouraging many other students and inspiring them about how they should go about their admissions, one parent got her phone number and said she would inform if there was a message to convey. She called up the lady two hours later and said, “I have got a token for you. Number is 302 and mine is 301. Now only number 140 had gone. So there is a chance if you come now.” “Let me give it a try and see what happens,” this person thought and got back to the college in an hour’s time. While all were complaining about the crowd, and many more issues, she waited. While many were trying to gain entry through closed doors, she sat down under a tree beneath the open sky of the full moon to be with the silence within. It was getting past 9.30pm, and many had left because their numbers had been called. This parent was sweating profusely as she still waited patiently. Her turn came and the son, who had gone away, happened to pass by the college with his friend just when it was their turn to go in. The patience and meditation through the day, the letter of recommendation and the student’s performance had the desired effect on the principal, and the admission was granted at 10.30pm.The moral of the story: If you want success, stop blaming, cribbing and justifying! See opportunities rather than the difficulties. You are sure to win.
