New Delhi: The Delhi police has issued a lookout circular for three Jawaharlal Nehru University students who reportedly participated in a pro-Afzal Guru event and raised anti-India slogans in campus.
DCP south has issued a lookout circular asking airports, ports immigration officials to detain the suspects if they try to flee the country.
Meanwhile, an NHRC probe team said the physical assault on JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar, who has been arrested on sedition charges, in the court premises appeared to have been "organised and pre-planned".
Claiming threat to life in jail and from lynching mobs in the court complex, Kumar on Thursday made the bail plea before the apex court. Kumar, who has been arrested on sedition charges, said he is a student and not some hardened criminal and no prejudice would be caused to any one, if he is released on bail.
On February 9, 2016, a few JNU students had organized a meeting to mourn and talk about the supposed "judicial murder" of Afzal Guru, the perpetrator of the 2001 attack on the Supreme Court. The gathering also was to address the issue of “Free Kashmir”. Like anything remotely related to gatherings such as this, it was met with backlash from the opposers, who in this case, was the ABVP. A few slogans here and there and a scuffle on top led to arrests, charges of sedition, and of course, further protests.
