People of Hyderabad-Karnataka (H-K) region comprising Bidar, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Raichur and Koppal district showed a lukewarm response to the Karnataka bandh call given by various pro-Kannada and other organisations.
It is being said that the people of H-K region wanted to convey to the organisations giving Karnataka bandh call that they should fight for genuine causes of all regions and not only for Cauvery and Bangalore issues.
Life was almost normal in the region with most shops being open and even the cable operators screened the entertainment channels.
Speaking to Express, president of Hyderabad Karnataka Horata Samiti Lakshman Dasti questioned, “Why people of this region would support the Cauvery issue when those people do not support the causes of this region.
Did they support for our agitations to bring pressure on Maharashtra for releasing water to Krishna and Bhima River or support the Karnataka bandh call for bringing pressure on the Union government to amend Article 371 for H-K region?” State President of Karnataka Prantya Raita Sangha Manpade observed that the affected people would agitate strongly and those persons not being affected would react mildly.
According to Manpade, the BJP has made this a political issue to create the three districts of Cauvery region a base for party.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Karnataka Horata Samiti leader Pandit Chidri attacked Yeddyurappa for his ‘dual’ policy. “Now BSY is staging dharna for Cauvery. He promised us twice that he would join agitation for Article 371 but later forgot it. How could the state become one when they treat us differently?” he added.
