Thiruvananthapuram(Kerala): In the wake of safety concerns over Maggi noodles, Kerala government has brought more processed food products of other brands also under the scanner.

Random samples of various food products of different brands had been collected and sent to laboratories for tests, an official in the State Food Safety Commissioner Office said in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.

Further action on the issue would be taken only after getting the test results.

The samples collected were being tested in three state-run laboratories at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode, the official said.

The popular brand of noodles has run into a controversy following Uttar Pradesh FSDA's finding monosodium glutamate and lead in excess of prescribed limit in samples of the snack, prompting several state governments to order tests.

Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation, known as Supplyco, has temporarily stopped the sale of Maggi noodles through its 1,400 odd outlets following the controversy.

Bakers Association of Kerala has also decided not to sell noodles of all varieties for the time being.
