Man Borrows Swachh Bharat Logo For Wedding Card, PM Modi Retweets it

New Delhi: Akash Jain (26) hasn't stopped smiling or checking his Twitter account since 2nd of April.

On a whim the marketing professional from Bengaluru tweeted out his sister Pratiksha's wedding card and tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to it.

Less than 24 hours later, not just did the PM retweet it but he also followed Akash back on Twitter.

"Best day of my life. PM Modi follows 1700 people on twitter and now I am one of them. I checked my notifications over and over again just to be sure that it wasn't fake. And it's all thanks to my dad's obsession with Swachh Bharat,” he said.

If you look at the wedding card closely, it has the symbol of PM Modi's pet project Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Akash's father Kantilal Jain, often called the Modi of Mysore because of his uncanny resemblance with PM Modi, insisted on it.

"Why should we put the full responsibility of cleaning up India only on the PM? I have sent 3000 wedding cards. The Swacch Bharat logo will remind people that they have a duty to do as well,” he said.

Pratiksha's wedding is slated for the 29th of this month, and the Swachh Bharat attempt doesn't just start and stop with the card. The caterer has been told to provide dustbins at every corner of the venue and there are strict instructions to reduce the use of plastic.

The Jains lived in Gujrat for 8 years before they shifted to Karnataka. The states Kanya Kelavani Yojna (a prototype of the Beti Padao, Beti Bachao Andolan) started by the then CM Modi inspired the business family to educate their daughters instead of getting them married off at the first opportunity.

Pratiksha now works for Infosys. Her younger sister Apeksha is with KPMG.

After the PM retweeted Pratiksha's wedding card, it has been viewed 10 lakh times. Akash has sent a personal invite to the PM as well but expecting him to come will be “asking for too much,” he says.
