Man tries to hit Agnivesh at Hazare meet
The attacker Mahant Nityanand, approached Agnivesh on the pretext of garlanding him.

Ahmedabad: Allegedly angered by Swami Agnivesh's recent comments allegedly criticising the Amarnath Yatra, a man tried to hit him at a public meeting of social activist Anna Hazare in Ahmedabad on Thursday evening.

The attacker, identified as Mahant Nityanand, approached Agnivesh on the pretext of garlanding him. He then yanked off Agnivesh's saffron turban and tried to hit him but Agnivesh managed to get away while others overpowered him.

Nityanand alleged "Swami Agnivesh has hurt the feelings of lakhs of Hindus in the country. He went to Kashmir and after eating biryani of Pakistan, had said Amarnath yatra was a sham".

Police whisked Nityanand away soon thereafter. Later, Agnivesh said "I would not like to take any action against the man who, I believe, has misunderstood me for hurting his religious sentiments."
