KOCHI: Thadiyantavida Nazeer alias Umer Haji is a suspected commander of the South Indian wing of Lashkar-e-Toiba involved in several terrorist activities. The security agencies have reported that he was a key person in establishing the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and motivating many people to participate in terror training camps. He was arrested from Bangladesh in 2009. Nazeer is an accused in many cases, including, the bus burning near Kalamassery in 2005, conducting clandestine meetings of the banned SIMI in 2006 and 2007 and recruiting youths from Kerala for terror network in Jammu and Kashmir. He is suspected to be behind the bomb explosions in Hyderabad and Bangalore. He is also an accused in some murder cases, planting of bombs at Coimbatore Press Club and Kozhikode bus stand.In the recent report filed by the jail authorities before the NIA Court, it was said that Thadiyantavida Nazeer and 15 other terrorists accused in different cases regularly quarrelled with the prison officials and created problems in the jail. The report had recommended a high security prison for accommodating them.
