Meat-less in Lucknow as Municipal Corporation Refuses to Renew Licences
Mean vendors of the city on Monday staged a protest in the Old Lucknow area near Shaheed Smarak and demanded renewal of their licenses.

Lucknow: The famous Tundey Kebabi, which was once famous for its beef kebabs, has been serving mutton kebabs post the crackdown of illegal slaughterhouses and the shortage of beef caused by it.

Very soon, the mutton kebabs can also be out of the menu as now mutton shops across Lucknow have been shut down after Lucknow Municipal Authority denied renewal of licences.

Less than month ago and after the crackdown on illegal mechanised slaughterhouses by the Yogi government, there was a crisis-like situation for meat sellers. The situation remains the same as meat vendors have been denied licences.

Lucknow Municipal Commissioner Udayraj Singh said, “Firstly, we will try to shut down any meat shop that is found open in the city as now no one has the licence to sell meat. Secondly, we are not renewing licences until we get the instructions from the state government, till then we cannot allow any kind of sale of meat in the city. Police have been deployed to keep a check on these shops.”

Meat vendors of the city on Monday staged a protest in the Old Lucknow area near Shaheed Smarak and demanded renewal of their licences. They claimed that the non-renewal of licences by the LMC has deprived them of their livelihood; they also made a demand of financial assistance by the Yogi government in order to upgrade their shops as per the norms laid down by the Pollution Control Board and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
