New Delhi: Medical Council of India (MCI) chief Ketan Desai has been arrested for allegedly demanded Rs 2 crore as bribe from a private medical college to give it official sanction.
Desai was arrested on Thursday night by the Central Bureau of Investigation along with two other people Jiten Pal Singh and Kanwaljit Singh. The trio had allegedly demanded Rs 2 crore for granting recognition to a private medical college in Punjab.
Kanwaljit Singh is a faculty at Gyan Sagar College in Patiala.
They were arrested after the CBI laid a trap and allegedly caught Desai red handed accepting the money. Desai is accused of granting recognition to several colleges that didn't meet required criteria. In 2001, he had stepped down as MCI president after the Delhi High Court indicted him on corruption charges.
