Meet the formidable Team USA for Olympics
We take a peep into their mood just days before the games begin.

New Delhi: The US track and field athletes practiced at Dalian University stadium in China on Monday and on view was one of the most promising stars in the US team – 110 metres hurdler David Oliver.

David has won every possible title in the US events in 2008, but he will be up against world record holder Dayron Robles of Cuba and Chinese defending champion Liu Xiang.

“They deserve all the credit in the world. Robles is the world record holder. He ran some awesome performances this year. Liu is the former world record holder, the defending gold medallist. I like to go about doing what I normally do. That basically means I take care of 10 hurdles in my lane. And you know I really can't control anything other than that,” David said.

The US track and field team won 25 medals in the Athens Games, which is the highest tally since the 1992 Barcelona Games. Now, the target for Beijing will be to better that record.

Meanwhile, one US team that is expected to sweep the medals is the swimming squad led by the formidable Michael Phelps, who will be aiming to break the record for the most individual medals in a game.

Waiting for the games to start, Phelps said, “The closer we get we can hardly wait for the Olympics to actually come. We've waited four years and it seems like this last week has taken the longest. I swam well today, I've been swimming well, I've been feeling good in the water, ready to compete and it's something I'm looking forward to for the past four years. Am glad it's finally here.”

With just days to go before the games start, Team USA is more than ready.
