Even as normalcy returned to the district on Tuesday following a wave of protests against police action on protestors at Koodankulam, Labour Welfare Minister S T Chellapandian and Fisheries Minister KA Jeyapaul on Tuesday met the family of a man killed in police firing here on Monday.
As announced by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, the Ministers handed over a solatium of Rs 5 lakh to them. G Antony John (48), a fisherman from Manapad, was killed after police opened fire at a protesting mob that was approaching the Kulasekarapatnam police station, after allegedly setting fire to a police check-post on the way.
The two ministers arrived at Tiruchendur in the afternoon and paid respects to the deceased fisherman at the Government Hospital. They then handed over the solatium to Kumar, Antony’s brother. Collector Ashish Kumar also accompanied the ministers.
