KOCHI: The probe into the murder of liquor baron Mithila Mohan is continuing without any breakthrough. It has been proved that a Crime Branch suspect in the case has no connection with it. The police, who extended the probe to other states after getting an inkling about him, are now clear that the person was not involved in the murder. The sources in the Crime Branch said that they had a picture of a person who is believed to have played a major role in the murder. “The picture was misleading and he had no connection with the case. We doubted him to be the shooter hired from another state. We need to quiz some other persons also. The investigation was carried out in other states as he was shot by a professional shooter,” Crime Branch sources said.Mohan, who was in the liquor business and ran a bar, was killed at his houseat Palarivattom by unidentified persons on April 6, 2006. The murder took place when a one-day international cricket match was being played at the Kaloor stadium. The murderers were believed to have visited Mohan’s house during the night and shot him. The police suspected business rivalry behind the crime and confirmed that the deceased was shot by a 0.32 revolver. The case was handed over to the Crime Branch on June 17, 2006. But no one could be arrested until now.The Crime Branch also conducted a polygraph test on Martin, one of the suspects in the case at the Thiruvananthapuram Forensic Science Labo-ratory in September this year. The result was negative as Martin was in a drunken state when he admitted about his involvement in a party in Dubai on the day of the murder. The Crime Branch had earlier quizzed Martin in connection with the murder but could not get any clue from him.
