CHENNAI: DMK chief M Karunanidhi condemned the State for en masse termination of several thousands of Makkal Nala Paniyalargal (MNPs), here on Wednesday. In an official release, the DMK leader said that it had become customary for the AIADMK government to relish on the woes of people.Terming the act as ‘sadism’, Karunanidhi wondered if there was anyone to advice AIADMK leader and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa that the action would affect the livelihood of thousands of families.The DMK also announced that it would hold state-wide agitations on November 15. PMK leader Dr S Ramadoss said the government had stripped 12,000 families of their livelihoods. The CPM state council strongly condemned the move. “It is absolutely wrong to sack the services of impoverished welfare workers who live on paltry wages for political reasons,” the party said. Expressing shock over the move, the CPI state secretary D Pandian said the welfare workers had been dismissed for the third time in a row since they joined in state services. The CITU urged the government to reinstate the employees considering the fact that most of them were over 40 years of age. TN Primary School Teachers Federation was among other association that have urged the government to take back the sacked workers.
