CHENNAI: The Madras Medical College (MMC) has treated the highest number of beneficiaries under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme in a three-month period, Dean of MMC Dr V Kanagasabai said on Saturday.Over 600 cases have been approved, and funds have been received from the policy period 11 January 2012 to 8 March 2012, said the Dean, talking to Express along the sidelines of a CME being held in MMC. He also said that 320 of these were surgeries conducted from February 9 to March 10.“A total amount of Rs 28,36,920 has been received so far from the insurance carrier, and will be used for the improvement of the hospital facilities. Being a premier multi-speciality institute, we are utilising the CM’s scheme for the benefit of our patients,” said Dr Kanagasabai.Among the surgical departments, neurosurgery received the maximum amount of almost Rs 9 lakh for 16 approved claims.The hepatology (liver) department, received close to Rs 3 lakh for the treatment of 14 patients.Other hospitals from Chennai included Stanley Medical College Hospital with 280 patients, Cancer Institute Adyar with 240 patients, in the fifth and sixth place respectively.
