The incident happened on June 2 when locals of Purbapara thrashed the student, who was passing by the area. They suspected him to be the person who regularly threw stones at a residential building to steal mangoes.
A mob thrashed a first-year college student Aniruddha Biswas to death in Haridevpur near Kolkata over suspicion that he stole mangoes from an orchard. Biswas was beaten with bamboo sticks and iron rods.
A badly injured Aniruddha was taken to a nearby state-run hospital by his family members. He succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
"The boy was in a critical condition and died primarily because of internal haemorrhage," police said.
A father, son duo has been arrested in connection with the case.
