Moral policing

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vattiyoorkavu police are on the lookout for two youths who had allegedly attacked a couple in a act of alleged ‘moral policing’ on Sunday night. The wanted men were identified as Vinod and Anu, both of them residing at Kanjirampara, near Vattiyoorkavu. The victims were the married couple, Urmila Devi and Suresh. According to the police, the couple had come to a private hospital at Kanjirampara after Urmila Devi fell ill on Sunday evening. They left the hospital around 9 pm. While they waiting for a bus inside the bus shelter there, Suresh held Urmila Devi close to him as she felt tired. This act was seen as an offence by the two youths who were passing by. They questioned the couple and even asked them to show the nuptial chain, if Urmila Devi wore any. This provoked the couple, who entered into an argument with the youths, which eventually led to a nasty brawl. Both Suresh and Urmila Devi were injured in the brawl and were admitted to a city hospital, following which the police registered a case against the youths.
