KHAMMAM: Declaration of crop holiday by the farmers in the district is on full swing as more villages are joining the spree with every passing day.Farmers of Bayyanapadu, the native village of former chief minister and Union minister late Jalagam Vengala Rao, on Monday have decided to leave their land fallow this kharif season.As many as 50 farmers in the village took up paddy cultivatoin in 200 acres last year. Farmers said apart from the slow paddy procurement by the government last year and no remunerative price for their produce, it is the lack of crop inputs including seeds, fertilizers which had made them to declare a crop holiday.Komati VenkateswaraRao, a farmer of the village, said though the village is famous as the native place of a former chief minister and Union minister, facilities for agriculture was very poor.Donthu Seshagiri, another farmer of the village opined that the farmers in the area were facing shortage of fertilizer this kharif season.Farmers of Bayyaram Pedacheruvu also declare a crop holiday on Tuesday. Ryots of Kothapet, Irusulapuram, Utukur, Venkataramapuram and four more villages in Yellandu sub-division have declared crop holiday.
