HYDERABAD: Close on the heels of the murder of Petroleum Minister S Jaipal Reddy’s niece has come another such case, this time involving the niece of Congress MP from Hyderabad Anjan Kumar Yadav. Harassment by in-laws for additional dowry allegedly forced her to end life at Raidurg on Sunday.B Mayuri (25) was the daughter of Anjan Kumar Yadav’s elder brother Raghu Kumar Yadav. Mayuri was married to Arjun Yadav from Raidurgam five years ago. He is into dairy business and the couple have three children, Nitya Sri (3), Dharma Teja (2) and 11-month-old Sai Teja. According to police, locals saw smoke emanating from the house this evening and went inside. They found Mayuri’s room locked from inside and thick smoke coming from it. They immediately broke open the doors and found her dead. She had apparently been either burnt alive or set herself ablaze. Police said Arjun’s was a joint family and his sisters and others were present in the house at the time of the incident. Though they informed the police about Mayuri’s “suicide”, they did not inform her parents immediately. Arjun’s brother-in-law Shiva called them up much later and broke the tragic news. They rushed to the spot and in a fit of rage damaged furniture in the house. Both the families reportedly came to blows before the police intervened. Mayuri’s family alleged that she was killed by her in-laws. Police registered a case under Section 304-b (dowry death) against Arjun and his parents. Arjun Yadav was reportedly not present in the house when the incident took place. The body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem. At the time of marriage, Mayuri’s parents reportedly gave gold and cash as dowry. “For the past 3-4 years, there were differences between the couple,’’ Madhapur ACP Goverdhan Reddy confirmed. On Sunday too, they had a tiff over attending a function at her sister’s house.
