PUDUCHERRY: Expressing concern over the law and order situation in the Union Territory, union minister of state for parliamentary affairs and PMO V Narayanasamy today urged Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy to take remedial measures regarding the same.Talking to reporters here, he said crimes had escalated causing concern. Taking a dig at the government, he said there was maintenance of law and order during the two-and-a-half-years of Congress rule, whereas under the current government, already 11 murders had taken place“The government should take steps to ensure that people do not develop a feeling of dissatisfaction and it should pay attention to the maintenance of law and order,” he said.Stating that he would lend all support for the development of the UT and the welfare of its people, he said that he had called on union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, with regard to the admission of students to the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Research Institute, which was awaiting approval from the Medical Council of India (MCI).However, the Puducherry government should take all steps to rectify the deficiencies pointed out by the MCI so that approval could be secured, he said. With just a few days to go before the MCI takes a decision, the government should act fast, he added.He said that the new train between Puducherry and New Delhi to be introduced in July would not only be highly beneficial to people but would also open doors to trade and commerce. Efforts would be made to convert this weekly train service to a daily affair. Moreover, he assured that he would try to get a train service linking Puducherry with Mumbai.
