KOCHI: Neena Teresa was just an ordinary young girl, until the CBSE results were published on May 23, which has completely changed her life.A student of Rajagiri Public School, she has made her parents and school proud by securing the first rank in the Chennai Zone CBSE and the second rank at the All India level. The unexpectedly good results were a surprise for everyone.“It’s all because of her humility, sincerity and hard work. The teachers have also put in their best efforts. We all expected Neena to hit the list of toppers, as she was the topper for Class X as well,” said Susan Varghese Cherian, Principal of Rajagiri Public School.Maths is her favorite subject and Neena secured a 100 in that. “The paper was rather easy compared to last year’s paper,” said Neena. “I didn’t expect this much marks actually. I got 96.8 percent in my Class X, so I didn’t even think that I would exceed that.”She proved that without any special preparations one can top in exams. “I didn’t have any special coaching for my Class XII exams. As I was preparing for entrance exams, I was going for entrance coaching class in Talent India.”Neena’s overall percentage is 98. She got to know the individual marks only when she approached the school. They are: Maths-100, Physics and Chemistry-99, English-95 and Computer Science -98. Physics was tough for Neena, but still she managed to secure good marks in the subject."I didn’t strain myself thinking that I am appearing for the boards. I just took it as a normal exam. I knew it would affect me if I pressurised myself. After my studies I use to listen to music to relax,” said Neena when asked about her preparations for the exam. She never had any fixed timings for her studies, whenever she felt it was the right time to study, she would just sit up and start studying with concentration, she says. She appeared for four entrance exams in all; Kerala Common Entrance Test, All India Engineering Test, BITS and IIT-JEE. Neena is not bothered about the fact that she didn’t clear IIT-JEE. Neena is more interested in pursuing her higher studies from outside Kerala. She secured above 90 percent in her Class XII exams.Neena wants to pursue Computer Science or Civil Engineering. She still hasn’t made up her mind between the two courses.Neena’s preparation tips to upcoming students is just that- ‘View the board exam as any normal one and also, be relaxed during the exams. Make sure that you are thorough with your lessons.’Neena is a music lover and also loves to read books whenever she can. She thanks her family for all the support they have given her - father Jose David, mother Leena and sister Natasha Maria. She also thanks her school principal, Susan Varghese Cherian and all her beloved teachers for their guidance throughout her academic life.
