Land cases in the Nelliampathy region are not connected with the Revenue Department as they fall in the domain of the Forest Department alone, according to Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash.

“However, if necessary, joint verification of the Nelliampathy land by the Revenue and Forest Departments would be undertaken,’’ he told reporters here on Friday.

To a query, the Revenue Minister said that the case for taking possession of the illegal holdings of the Harrison’s Malayalam Ltd was pending before the High Court and transactions had been barred till the court delivered the verdict.

Steps have been initiated to take over the excess land held by the Harrison’s Malayalam Ltd which was admitted by the company itself in the court, he said.

He said that plantation labourers working in the state for quite a long time could not be considered as migrant labourers.

“But the special police have given a report that those labourers who are not staying permanently in the Devikulam taluk of Idukki and having homes across the border in Tamil Nadu should not be awarded title deeds for their holdings here. It will be examined,’’ he said.

Adoor Prakash said that 2,33,232 families have been identified in the state as landless.

As per the zero landless scheme of the government, three cents of land each will be awarded to the listed ones, free of cost. 4,02,948 applications were distributed through the village offices as part of the intensive drive of the UDF Government. Out of it, 2,94,945 submitted them, he said.

The Minister said that it was estimated that 8,000 acres of land was needed for implementing the zero landless scheme.

The Revenue Department is probing whether land could be allotted in the same district of the applicants, he said.

The list of those eligible for land under the scheme has been published on the website,www.zerolandless.kerala.gov.in.

Complaints regarding the list, if any, could be brought to the attention of the authorities and land would be taken back from the allottees if malpractice were detected, the Revenue Minister said.
