New Delhi: A Saudi Arabian diplomat was allegedly roughed up by a group of youths for taking his pet dog inside a park near his residence in south Delhi's Safdarjung Enclave area.

The incident took place a fortnight ago when the victim, identified as Abdul Rehman, a secretary rank officer working with the Saudi Arabia Embassy in Chankyapuri area, had gone to the community park with his dog for evening stroll.

Soon, a youth came from behind and started yelling at Rehman in Hindi and started to point toward a sign board, that prohibits visitors from taking their pet inside the park. However, the sign board too was in Hindi. The diplomat tried to tell him that he could not understand Hindi and urged him to speak in English. An argument ensued and a scuffle followed.

Soon, a few other youths joined and allegedly roughed up the embassy official.

"Rehman had a brief fight with some people of the RWA over taking his dog to the park. We have registered a case in this regard at Safdarjung Enclave police station under section 340 and 341 of the IPC and further investigations are on," said a police officer.

Nobody has been arrested in this case so far, police said.
