CHENNAI: Fearing a state-staged conspiracy in the formation of the nine-member panel established to study the Uniform School Education System, educationists across the board got together on Monday asking for the panel to be disbanded and a ‘new, impartial’ panel to be formed.Addressing a press briefing in the city, Prof Marx said the Supreme Court, which had ordered the formation of such a panel, should have formed the panel too, and leaving that to the discretion of the state government, which is a party involved directly in the issue, was unfair. The panel has been formed only to analyse the syllabus and books framed under the USE system, and not to comment if the USE system can be implemented or not, he added. “The books have been designed carefully by expert academicians,” noted Prof A Karunanandham, former history professor at Vivekananda College, who was part of the syllabus framing group for the USE books. “We have included issues only relevant to society, which students must be enlightened about,” he noted. The two members recommended by the government as educationists, C Jayadev, founder-secretary of DAV Schools group, and Dr (Mrs) Y G Parthasarathy, Dean and Director of Padma Seshadri group of schools, were administrators and not educationists, Marx noted.
