KARWAR: The district administration submitted a proposal to the state to develop tourism between Baithkol port and London Bridge in Karwar. The proposal, jointly drafted by the PWD and the Department of Ports and Inland Water Transport, included levelling of seawall built near the London Bridge, construction of concrete steps along the seawall and to provide railings along the steps. The proposal envisages planting of saplings along the highway and to provide parking slots to tourists. The entire cost of the project is estimated to be Rs. 24.82 lakh. However, the residents are skeptical about the success of the project. The residents alleged that crores of rupees had been spent in the past to develop tourism on Karwar beach, but have gone in vain owing to poor maintenance by the authorities.
