The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday came down heavily on Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh for not trying to stop burning of crops in the states.
The NGT asked the district magistrates of the areas to constitute a taskforce to stop crop burning, seeking an action taken report. The bureaucrats have been asked to submit the report to the respective state pollution boards.
State governments have also been asked by the NGT to issue urgent notification to stop crop burning, which has led to thick fog in and around the national capital.
