Hyderabad/New Delhi: As heatwave continues to sweep some parts of the country, the death toll has now reached 2005. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have collectively accounted for 1979 deaths.
Bhawanipatna in Odisha recorded a temperature of 45.5 degree celsius and around 108 deaths have been reported in the state. Sambalpur recorded 44.8 degrees celsius followed by Hirakud with 44.6, Jharsuguda 43.6, Angul 42.7, Malkangiri 42.6 and Sundergarh 42.5.
While 13 places in the state recorded above 40 degrees Celsius, the state capital Bhubaneswar experienced a temperature of 39.7 degrees celsius.
Seven people have died in Gujarat and two in Delhi, where the temperature has dropped down to 42 degree celsius.
Heat wave conditions continued to prevail in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Palamu district in Jharkhand was hottest place, recording 47 degree celsius.
IMD director BP Yadav assured that the heatwave has subsided. He said monsoon has already arrived over the Bay of Bengal. "Heatwave which was there for the last one week when temperatures rose upto 47-46 in many parts of the country- especially Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has now subsided a lot. Temperatures have come down during the last 48 hours," he said.
