There is tremendous expansion and new project activity in the apparel manufacturing space in Chennai, which may overtake even Erode, currently known as the Textile City of TN.However, the association said that due to the non-availability of space and high rent, entrepreneurs are forced to move to far off and inconvenient locations. The industry is also plagued by the lack of availability of skilled manpower. In an attempt to resolve these issues, the CAA plans to give a representation to the Tamil Nadu Government requesting that it take the initiative to set up an apparel park and wholesale market near Chennai, reduce VAT, provide adequate representation of apparel manufacturers in Traders Welfare Boards and influence upon the Central Government to remove the excise duty on readymade garments.The seventh edition of Trendition – Annual Garment Fair will be inaugurated by D Jayakumar, Honourable Speaker Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu.  The guest of honour will be Dr S Devadoss, director, National Institute of Fashion Technology.The primary objective of the fair is to bring retailers from across the state together and enable them to place orders with manufacturers for the upcoming festival season.Trendition will also provide a platform for apparel manufacturers and vendors to interact and come up with ideas that will help develop the ready-made garment industry in an organised fashion.While `105 crore worth of business was transacted at Trendition last year, it is estimated that the fair will generate trade worth `150 crore this year.
