Uttar Pradesh police have nabbed a man for allegedly bludgeoning his 34-year-old wife to death in Noida’s Chhajarsi village, for making him wait for a “head massage”. According to police, the couple quarrelled frequently, and during one such altercation on Monday night, the deceased was brutally attacked by her husband with a brick.
The deceased has been identified as Pratibha Giri alias Reenu. She hailed from UP’s Faizabad and had relocated to Noida with her husband, Harendra Giri (36), and their three daughters just a few days before the murder.
“The family hails from Ayodhya and moved to a rented accommodation in Chhajarsi village in Sector 63 two days ago. Giri works at a private company in Noida,” a Hindustan Times report quoted Avdhesh Pratap Singh, station house officer, Sector 63 police station as saying.
Police said that Giri reached home on Monday night around 10.30 pm in an inebriated state and asked Pratibha to give him a head massage.
As Pratibha was cooking dinner at the time, she asked him to wait. This angered Giri, who picked up a brick kept in the house and thrashed her brutally.
Neighbours alerted the police after hearing the victim’s screams.
“On being alerted, we immediately reached the spot and found their daughters crying next to their mother who was lying in a pool of blood. We rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival,” Chhajarsi police outpost in-charge, Deshpal Singh said, as per the HT report.
The official said the assault took place in front of the couple’s five-year-old daughter, as their youngest one was sleeping while the older child was out of the house.
According to police, the deceased sustained severe head injuries and her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
During the probe, police found that the relations between husband and wife were not good as Giri did not like his three daughters and wanted a son.
An FIR has yet to be registered in the case, and police are awaiting a complaint from the woman’s family. Once a complaint is received, Giri will be booked for murder, the SHO said.
The deceased’s family members have been informed about the incident and are en route to the city.
Further investigations are underway.
