KOTTAYAM: Stray incidents of violence was reported in some parts of the district on Monday during the dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the LDF and the BJP. Held in protest against the hike in fuel prices, the hartal paralysed normal life in town. However, the district remained peaceful barring one or two incidents, S Rajagopal, SP, told Express.A jeep was targeted by some people in Kanjirapally. It is said that the attack was due to the jeep giving a slip to a group who signaled the vehicle to stop.Following this, the group went after the vehicle. They reached the place where the jeep was parked and showered their ire on it. Local police have registered a case against 50 persons.In another incident in Vaikom, P N Mukundan, manager, State Bank of Travancore, Vechoor, was attacked in the morning by some people, inside the bank. According to police, protesters marched to the bank and asked the official to pull the shutter. The official refused to comply, following which an argument ensued and later the official was allegedly assaulted. He was admitted to Vaikkom Taluk Hospital. Police has registered a case against ten identifiable people. Meanwhile, buses remained off the road. Even KSRTC operated very few buses. The Sabarimala pilgrims were the worst hit. The tourists going to Kumarakom and Thekkady also suffered.
