HYDERABAD: Thieves broke into a house at Kompally in Pet Basheerabad and decamped with property worth Rs 20 lakh late on Saturday night.
The theft took place in the house of D Mahender Reddy. According to the police, Mahender Reddy's brother, Shiva Reddy, lives in a house opposite his brother's. Shiva Reddy's engagement was held recently and the family is making preparations for the marriage. As part of the preparations, Shiva Reddy purchased some gold and silver articles and kept them in Mahender Reddy's house. On Saturday Mahender Reddy went to a relative's house at Champapet to distribute wedding invitation cards while his wife, Sujatha, and their son went to a hostel in the city where the couple's daughter is staying. Both Mahender Reddy and Sujatha could not return home for the night and the house was kept locked.

On the following morning, Mahender Reddy reached home and found that the door was locked from inside and as he went to the rear side of the house, he found window bars removed. He informed the police. They went inside and found the room ransacked and the gold and silver articles and some other valuables stolen. Nearly 320 gm of gold, 3 kg of silver, `1 lakh in cash and other valuables all worth `20 lakh were stolen from the house.
