New Delhi: Crickter-turned-politician and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday said that the Opposition parties of Pakistan were joining hands in London to conceive a plan to topple the Musharraf regime in next year’s general elections.
Unveiling the Opposition’s "London Plan" to launch an anti-government movement for the next year’s polls, Imran Khan said that while the PML-N would not participate in the polls, the MMA and the ARD would also be persuaded to resign from the assemblies before the polls.
"Nawaz Sharif has clearly stated that his party will boycott the elections under Gen Musharraf and so has Qazi Hussain Ahmad," the Daily Times quoted Khan as saying in an interview with the GEO TV.
He added that Sharif would try to make the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) back the plan, while Qazi would talk to the MMA for this purpose.
However, Federal Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani said the government was ready to form an independent election commission in accordance with the opposition’s demand.
Durani assures that the next elections would be fair, free and transparent.
But reiterating the plan of the Opposition, Imran Khan said both Sharif and Qazi had agreed to the ‘Plan’, the second and third parts of which would be unveiled in the future.
