Islamabad: Lashkar-e-Toiba operative and 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi's bail has been challenged by the Pakistan government in the Supreme Court on Thursday.
There have been continuous flip-flops from Pakistan over his release in recent days. The Islamabad High Court had approved his release earlier this week only for Lakhvi to be remanded yet again into custody for abducting a man named Anwar six and a half years ago.
Lakhvi's counsel Advocate Rizwan Abbasi had petitioned in the court on Wednesday claiming that a false FIR had been registered against his client due to pressure from India. He added that there was no basis on which the case had been lodged.
Earlier, his release was ordered on December 18 by an anti-terror court in Pakistan claiming that there was no evidence against him in the Mumbai blast case. Following massive uproar from India, he was detained under a public order law.
Lakhvi, too, had challenged his two-day physical remand in a kidnapping case in a district and sessions court in Islamabad on Wednesday.
