Islamabad: In a goodwill gesture, Pakistan Army on Friday handed over an Indian woman, who inadvertently crossed the LoC (Line of Control) in Jammu and Kashmir, to Indian authorities.

Shamim Akhtar had by mistake crossed over to Pakistani side of the Line of Control (LoC) at Chakoti Sector on August 25, the Pakistan Army said in a statement.

"As a goodwill gesture, Shamim Akhtar, a resident of Nakarkot village in Poonch district was handed over to concerned authorities," it said.

A senior Indian Army official in Jammu confirmed receiving the woman at the Chakan Da Bagh crossing point in Poonch sector Friday morning.

The peaceful repatriation of Akhtar came as border security chiefs of Pakistan and India are meeting in New Delhi to discuss the situation on the LoC and reduce tensions on the border.

Dozens of civilians have been killed on both sides of the disputed border in bloody clashes between the two armies in recent months.
