CHENNAI: Some parents of students of The School-KFI, who have been making efforts to renew the lease for the school land, Damodhar Gardens, in Adyar are agitated over the General Council of the Theosophical Society (TS) turning down the set of proposals made by the Krishnamurthy Foundation of India (KFI). Though they planned to hold a protest, it was deferred at the behest of KFI, which has proposed to pay a donation of `7.5 crore in two instalments and also increase the monthly rent from `12,000 to `30,000. Of the 300 acres of land owned by TS in Adyar, Damodhar Gardens comprises just 15.5 acre and KFI sought for just 3 to 3.5 acre around the present main building in the renewed lease for a period of 35 years - initially for 20 years. Apart from that, KFI had expressed its willingness to induct three or four members from the TS into its Chennai Executive Committee and also support the vocational training institute, which the TS plans to start on the school premises. KFI had promised to provide computers and other equipment worth `35 lakh, bear the annual maintenance cost of `15 lakh and help secure placements for trained students, while making it clear that it seeks neither control nor administrative role to run the institute.
