Party leaders support dissolution of BCC

BANGALORE: Leaders cutting across party lines have welcomed the state’s decision to dissolve the BCC. While BJP state president K S Eshwarappa has said that he was happy that an errant civic body has been taught a lesson for not adhering to provisions of the Act, Congress deputy leader in the Assembly T B Jayachandra and JD(S) MLC Y S V Datta said they had their own apprehensions. Jayachandra said he was skeptical whether the BJP government would really muster courage to dissolve Belgaum civic body given its ties with Shiv Sena and overwhelming Marathi-support which it has got in the elections. “But I am pleasantly surprised that the government has indeed been able to take a bold decision,” he told Express. Datta said he feared that the BJP will warn the BCC and give more time to mend its ways, but he was happy that the decision to supersede the corporation has come.
