HYDERABAD: The arrival of Transport Minister Botsa Satyanarayana, who has been appointed as the new chief of the Pradesh Congress Committee, set off a sort of frenzy among the party leaders on Tuesday.A huge crowd of party leaders and workers gathered at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport with party flags to welcome their new boss. As he came into view, they went hysterical, raising slogans in his support. Satyanarayana was visibly happy. It was definitely a momentous occasion for him to receive the kind of tumultuous welcome that he did. Though he belongs to Andhra, most of the leaders who turned up at the airport were from Hyderabad. Mayor B Karthika Reddy, MP Anjan Kumar Yadav and Marketing Minister M Mukesh Goud were among the first to congratulate him on his ascendance to the post of the PCC president. Given the current political situation and that of the State Congress, the position could well be compared to that of a shadow chief minister. Hence, the rousing reception. When Botsa arrived at his residence in the Ministers’ quarters, he had no time for himself. Some workers set off crackers, others danced to drum beats. Several Ministers, MLAs, former ministers and partymen vied with one another to shake his hands and offer bouquets. Amidst this festive atmosphere, Botsa squeezed in some time for the media. He said he would give priority to those with ideas that could help the party grow stronger. “I will be a facilitator between the party and the government. I will fulfil my responsibility. I will take charge as PCC chief after consultations with all the elders and well-wishers. I want the party workers to spend time in getting feedback from the people on the government’s programmes and the same would be conveyed to the chief minister,” he said.Without wasting time, the PCC chief paid courtesy calls to senior leaders. He called on former chief minister N Janardhan Reddy, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, former chief minister K Rosaiah and outgoing PCC president D Srinivas and sought their cooperation to help the party bounce back.
