Cuttack: The Pipili gang rape victim, whose condition had moved Orissa High Court, was on Wednesday shifted to SCB Medical College in Cuttack for treatment by specialists.
The 19-year old Dalit girl, who is in coma since the incident on November 28 last year, has been admitted to the central ICU of the hospital where a team of multi-disciplinary experts are attending to her.
A lady constable has been deputed to guard the girl, while the city police also stepped up security in and around the hospital as per the orders of the HC, which also directed providing her free treatment.
Hearing the case in the morning, the HC division bench headed by Chief Justice V Gopala Gowda had ordered the chief medical officer of the medical college hospital to shift the victim safely to Cuttack from Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar after considering the opinion of the latter's chief medical officer.
She was shifted in an ambulance accompanied by doctors as per the division bench's order and Bhubaneswar police were directed to provide security to the victim during the shifting.
The HC also modified its order passed on Tuesday and directed the state crime branch police to investigate the matter and submit a status report of the case to the court on January 16 after arresting all the four accused persons named in the FIR of the case.
Earlier, the Puri district superintendent of police was directed to arrest the accused and submit the status report. But as the matter is now being handled by the crime branch police, the order was modified.
