Plan panel okays Rs 300 crore for COP

The Planning Commission has sanctioned Rs 300 crore for the International Bio-diversity Conference to be held here from October 1 to 19.

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy received information to this effect from the Centre on Wednesday. The state government is spending Rs 450 crore to make arrangements for the prestigious conference which will be held for the first time in India.

Delegates from about 190 countries and heads of government and ministers from various countries are likely to participate in it. The state government has constituted 10 nodal committees for reception, accommodation, food & protocol, transport, security, city beautification & upkeep, cultural events, exhibitions, media, medical & health facilities, side events and venue & stage preparation.

Pylon: It has allotted 15 acres of land in APIIC Layout at Gachibowli to the EFS & T department for erecting a pylon, setting up a biodiversity museum and a park.

A master plan will be prepared by the AP State Bio Diversity Board and the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation in three days. Construction of the pylon will be completed in the first w e e k o f O c t o b e r .

Park: About 300 to 400 rare and endangered plant species have been procured for planting in the proposed Biodiversity Park. The forest department is establishing the park in a 10-acre site in the Dulapally Reserve Forest. The national flags of participating countries will be displayed near the airport and in and around the venue. Biodiversity Special _an exhibition on wheels will reach Secunderabad on October 9 and will stay parked at the James Street railway station till October 19.

Security: The police department, in consultation with the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), has prepared a security and traffic plan.
