New Delhi: On the World AIDS day, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that people should do away with traditional shyness on discussing about safe sex and the society should be made aware of the disease.
He said that AIDS could have serious consequences for the country's economy and future.
Talking about the AIDS control programme, he said that the programme should get out of the narrow confines of health department and become an integral part of all government departments.
Addressing at the 'National Convention of HIV/AIDS for Youth Leaders of Political Parties', Singh said that if India begin to lose youth to this disease then it will have serious consequences for the society and economy.
"Youth leaders should fully comprehend the need to educate young men and women about the modes of transmission," he added.
"People should discuss sex related matters within families and among colleagues, quite apart from doing it in public, breaking the traditional inhibitions," he said.
